A New Wave of Coffee in Milan
Milan, like much of Italy, has long been defined by its classic coffee rituals: quick espresso shots at bustling bars or leisurely cappuccinos enjoyed in the morning. Orsonero Coffee breaks the mold by introducing the third-wave coffee movement to the city since 2016 - one of the first, if the not the first, nouveau speciality coffee shop.
Founded by a Canadian-Italian duo, the café draws inspiration from global coffee trends, offering carefully sourced beans, diverse brewing methods, and an emphasis on quality over quantity. Their commitment to excellence has earned Orsonero a loyal following among locals and travelers alike.
The Coffee Experience
Specialty Brews
Orsonero focuses on bringing out the nuanced flavors of coffee beans through a variety of brewing techniques. From velvety flat whites to meticulously brewed pour-overs, the menu caters to every taste while encouraging patrons to explore new flavors.
• Espresso: A nod to tradition, yet elevated with beans sourced from all over the world and roasted by Orsonero. Some of the best beans I've ever tasted.
• Filter Coffee: Highlighting single-origin beans, the filter options allow guests to experience the full spectrum of flavor profiles, from fruity and bright to rich and chocolatey.
• Milk-Based Drinks: The flat white is a house favorite, with creamy microfoam that perfectly complements the espresso’s bold flavors.
• Long Black: My favorite. Not quite a caffe or an Americano, this "long coffee" includes espresso with just a splash of hot water.
Attention to Detail
Every cup at Orsonero is a testament to precision and passion. The baristas are skilled artisans who weigh, time, and brew each drink with care, ensuring consistency and quality. The latte art is a visual treat, a small yet delightful detail that reflects the café’s dedication to the craft.
Pastries
Pastries rotate in and are made fresh daily, but their apricot croissant is to die for. One of the best I've ever had.
The Atmosphere
A Minimalist Sanctuary
Orsonero Coffee’s interior is a perfect blend of Scandinavian-inspired minimalism and Milanese elegance. The warm wooden furnishings, clean lines, and natural light create a serene environment, making it an ideal spot for everything from quiet contemplation to lively conversations.
A Community Hub
Despite its modern aesthetic, Orsonero retains a warm, welcoming vibe. Regular patrons chat with the friendly staff, while first-time visitors are quickly made to feel at home. The café fosters a sense of community, where people bond over a shared appreciation for great coffee.
